An 11-year-old boy riding a bicycle in Brooklyn is hospitalized in serious condition after he was involved in an accident with a city bus early Sunday evening, authorities said.

Investigators believe the boy may have ridden his red and gray bicycle into the back of the bus at the corner of Crescent and Weldon streets in Cypress Hills at around 5:15 p.m.. They say the driver never saw him.

The boy was taken to Brookdale Hospital. Authorities say he's expected to survive, but has severe wounds to the left side of his body and faces a long road to recovery.

Witnesses said they heard the child scream.

"The boy was in shock because he was very much conscious and he was screaming," said James Morales.

Police said they believe no criminality was involved.
