MTA Bus Fire Shuts Down Lexington Avenue in Midtown

An MTA bus somehow caught fire in midtown Manhattan Thursday morning, shutting down a Lexington Avenue intersection in the heart of the city for an hour as firefighters scrambled to douse the flames.

Fire officials got a call about the fire at 45th Street shortly before 6:45 a.m. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

The fire appeared to be out by 7:15 a.m. Traffic cameras showed the charred remains of the bus on the side of the street as firefighters carried hoses. Smoke filled the area and police vehicles, sirens blaring, blocked off the intersection.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The MTA says there were no passengers on the bus.
