Thieves Targeting Luxury Cars in the Hamptons: Police

Thieves have been targeting late-model Mercedes, BMWs and Range Rover

Thieves have been stealing Mercedes, BMWs, Range Rovers and other late-model luxury vehicles in the Hamptons over the past several weeks, police say.

Car thieves have stolen 18 luxury vehicles in towns across the eastern portion of Suffolk County, according to police. The thefts appear to be connected and have for the most part occurred after 10 p.m., so owners don’t notice their car is missing until the next morning.

The thefts have occurred in Westhampton, Quogue Village, Southampton and East Hampton. Police departments in each of those towns, along with the East Hampton Village Police Department, are working together to investigate the crimes.

Police are asking car owners to take extra care to lock doors, roll up windows, set alarms and remove spare keys. Owners are also urged to remove valuable items from unattended vehicles.

Anyone who has information about the thefts is asked to contact the Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.
