NY Man to Be Sentenced in Fatal Girlfriend Stabbing

A man who prosecutors say has been attacking women with knives for decades and has spent half his life in prison as a result may never get out again.

Lucius Crawford is scheduled for sentencing Tuesday after being convicted of fatally stabbing his girlfriend, Tonya Simmons, at his Mount Vernon home in 2012. Her body was found with more than 30 stab wounds.

He could be sent to prison for 25 years to life.

The same jury that convicted Crawford of murdering Simmons could not reach a verdict on a second knife killing. Crawford is awaiting trial in the Bronx on a third murder charge.

The 61-year-old Crawford has spent about 30 years in prison for non-fatal stabbings of women in New York and South Carolina.

In transcripts released last year, Crawford said he stabbed women for no reason, usually while high and after having sex.

"Something just came over me and I stabbed them," Crawford was quoted as saying. "I have a demon inside me and I just snap."
