Man Charged in Long Island Home Burglary Spree: Police

Police on Long Island have arrested a 30-year-old man in connection to a home burglary spree spanning two towns over the last several months.

Vincent Heilig is charged with 10 counts of second-degree burglary and one count of attempted burglary. Suffolk County police say he is responsible for a series of break-ins at homes in Ronkonkoma and Medford dating back nearly a year.

The first home was burglarized in April 2013, police say. Nine other homes were broken into in December and January.

Police say the suspect went into homes while residents were away, stealing cash and jewelry.

Heilig is set to be arraigned in Islip on Friday. It’s not clear if he has an attorney.

Police say the investigation is continuing.
