2 Queens Teens Killed in Fiery Crash on Southern State Parkway: Police

Two Queens teens were killed in a fiery crash on a Long Island highway early Tuesday, state police say.

Justin Johnson and Joseph Kelly, both 19, both died after the car Kelly was driving flew off the Southern State Parkway and slammed into the Franklin Avenue overpass in Valley Stream at about 12:30 a.m., police say.

Police say the teens and several friends in other cars were traveling from a house party in Laurelton, Queens, to a bowling alley in Nassau County.

They say that Kelly, who was driving his car at high speeds, failed to navigate a curve and lost control of the vehicle. Both teens were entrapped after the car hit the overpass.

State troopers worked throughout the night to reconstruct the crash and kept the eastbound lanes of the highway closed for about eight hours. All lanes reopened at about 7 a.m.

Police say it doesn't appear that drugs or alcohol played roles in the wreck, and it does not appear that any crimes were committed.
