Signal Problems Snarl Evening Commute for LIRR Riders

Several Long Island Rail Road trains were canceled ahead of Monday's evening rush and others were late because of signal problems at Penn Station and West Side Yard that were expected to cause lingering delays through the commute.

At least four trains -- one to Port Jefferson, two to Port Washington and one scheduled to arrive at the midtown hub from Port Washington -- had been canceled because of the signal concerns.

Service on the Port Washington, Port Jefferson and Babylon lines were affected by the signal problems. The issues were resolved as the evening commute got underway, but lingering delays were expected.
