LIRR Riders Warned to Expect Delays for Evening Rush

Long Island Rail Road commuters should expect delays during Wednesday's evening rush.

A third-rail cable caught fire in one of the East River tunnel tubes earlier in the day and crews are still making repairs, officials say.

As a result, the railroad is canceling or combining eastbound trains for the evening.

Westbound service from Jamaica to Penn Station is also suspended. Customers can use the E subway train instead.

A Penn Station-bound train had gotten stuck in one of the tubes when the fire broke out, officials said. About 100 people were on board, but there were no injuries.
