Long Island Man Charged with Aggravated DWI

A Long Island man faces a charge of aggravated driving while intoxicated after being arrested for fleeing the scene of an accident, police said Sunday.

Jose Garcia-Lazo of Bay Shore was charged at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday with aggravated DWI after police spotted his 9-year-old daughter in the passenger seat of his black Toyota 4-Runner, said investigators at the Suffolk County Police Department. Officers had stopped his vehicle on Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst.

An hour before his arrest, Garcia-Lazo had fled the scene of an accident on Straight Path in Wyandanch, investigators said. There were no injuries in the accident.

In addition to aggravated DWI, he was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, driving while ability is impaired and leaving the scene of a reportable accident, police said.

There was no information on whether Garcia-Lazo had retained a lawyer.
