Long Island Man Charged in Violent Robbery of Woman: Police

A Long Island man has been arrested in connection with the robbery and assault of a woman who was left seriously injured on the side of a road last month, police said Sunday.

Antoine Smiley, 38, of Bay Shore, is accused of robbing and "violently" assaulting a woman on April 27 and leaving her on Exit 37 of the Southern State Parkway in Babylon, state police said.

He is charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree assault. It's unclear whether Smiley has an attorney who can respond to the charges.

Smiley was apprehended by the U.S. Marshal's Regional Fugitive Task Force.
