Long Island Man Arrested in Fatal Armed Robbery

Authorities have arrested a Long Island man on murder charges in connection with the death of a man last month in a home invasion.

Suffolk County police say they arrested the 22-year-old East Moriches man Saturday night. Police say that on Dec. 8 at about 3 a.m., he and another masked suspect entered the home in Eastport, announced a robbery and shot two men before fleeing.

Police said 45-year-old Francisco Pirir was pronounced dead and another man who was shot in the hand was treated and released from a local hospital.

Investigators suspect the gunmen targeted the house believing that the seven day laborers living there kept cash inside.

Pirir, a landscaper who was living in the home with his two brothers, was supporting a wife and four kids in Guatemala.

The suspect was awaiting arraignment Sunday. Authorities did not know if he had a lawyer.

Police are still looking for the second suspect.
