Police on Long Island are looking for a man who robbed a motorist while posing as a police officer.

Police say the 64-year-old driver pulled over on Central Avenue in Hempstead Sunday night after a SUV traveling behind him repeatedly flashed his high beam headlights.

Police say the SUV driver identified himself as a police officer and demanded the man's registration and insurance papers. He also told him to turn off his ignition and place the keys on the roof of the car. When the victim provided his wallet, the man fled the scene in the SUV.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
