Driver, 19, Arrested in Long Island Road Rage Crash

A 19-year-old Long Island man has been charged in an alleged road rage crash that injured the other driver, police say.

Police said Robert Ferrara Jr. was driving a 2015 Dodge Challenger on William Floyd Parkway near Upton Road Wednesday when he forced a Nissan Altima off the road, then left the scene.

The 23-year-old Altima driver, Tyler Mioducki, crashed into a wooded area and suffered a broken femur that required surgery, police say. He was released from Stony Brook University Hospital Thursday.

Mioducki told News 4 that the other driver had been weaving in and out of traffic on the busy parkway, endangering other drivers.

"I pulled up next to him, I saw his window was down and I said, 'Dude, what the hell is wrong with you?'" said Mioducki.

The tension escalated quickly and the two drivers began racing, according to another witness, Mario Sagastume, who recorded the chase from a few cars behind. That's when Ferrara ran Mioducki off the road and the Altima ended up in the woods.

Police arrested Ferrara Thursday, charging him with reckless driving, second-degree reckless endangerment and third-degree assault, all misdemeanors.

Ferrera was issued a desk appearance ticket and is expected to be arraigned in Central Islip on Sept. 22. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
