Long Island Driver Slams into Patrol Car While Drunk: Police

A Long Island man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly slammed his vehicle into a sheriff’s patrol car parked along a highway while driving drunk.

An officer with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department was making a traffic stop on Route 25A in Miller Place when his parked patrol car was sideswiped by a 1999 Plymouth Neon.

The 23-year-old Rocky Point man behind the wheel of the Plymouth drove for a short distance before he was pulled over by the officer in a McDonald’s parking lot.

When the officer was advising dispatch of his location, the man, who admitted he had been drinking, said, "Sir, we’re at Wendy’s."

The man failed a field sobriety test and a chemical test of his breath found that he had a blood alcohol level of .16.

He was arrested at the scene and arraigned on Thursday.
