Driver Accused of DWI After Car Crashes into L.I. House

The driver of a car that crashed into a house on Long Island Saturday evening has been arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated, police say.

The car crashed through a fence and plowed into a home on St. Marks Place in Bellmore shortly before 10 p.m.

The 30-year-old driver of the car, identified as Matthew Knee of Bellmore, and his 51-year-old passenger were both taken to the hospital with head injuries, though the extent of their injuries wasn't immediately clear. They were the only ones injured in the crash, police said.

Knee faces charges of third-degree assault and reckless driving in addition to DWI. Information on an attorney for him wasn't immediately available.

The investigation is ongoing.
