Arrest Made in Shooting of Long Island Cab Driver During Robbery

The driver was called to a home on West Roosevelt Avenue in Roosevelt before being shot

A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a robbery and shooting that left a Long Island cab driver wounded Saturday night.

Police said the 60-year-old driver was called to a home on West Roosevelt Avenue in Roosevelt at around 7:45 p.m., but when he got there the house had a for sale sign in front of it and appeared to be empty.

That's when police say Ezekiel Pittman displayed a handgun and demanded money from the driver. The driver complied, but Pittman then demanded more money and shot the driver on the right side of his body before fleeing, officials said.

The driver was rushed to a hospital and is expected to survive.

Police say Pittman also tried to rob a female cab driver at gunpoint earlier this month. He has been charged with several counts of robbery, assault, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal use of a firearm.

Information on an attorney for Pittman was not immediately available.
