2 Long Island Schools Locked Down as Precaution as Police Seek Robbery Suspect

Authorities locked down two Long Island schools as a precaution Monday afternoon as police searched for a suspect wanted in connection with a robbery nearby.

Police said there was no specific threat to either of the locked down schools, which were Roslyn Middle School and the Locust Lane School in Roslyn.

The precautionary lockdown order was issued shortly after police got the call of the robbery around 1:15 p.m. It was lifted shortly afterward.

Police say the suspect approached a 58-year-old woman sitting in her 2013 Mercedes Benz in the Holiday Farms lot just after she finished loading the car up with groceries.

The suspect demanded her jewelry, then took off with her wedding ring, running east on the south service road of the Long Island Expressway.

Police are still searching for the suspect, described as about 30 to 40 years old, and last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and khaki pants.
