1. New York City Takes Aim at Plastic Straws in Proposed Ban

Plastic straws could be a thing of the past -- at least in New York City. 

A bill was introduced proposing a sweeping ban on single-use plastic straws and beverage stirrers in restaurants, bars and food carts across the boroughs. 

The proposal is in an effort to reduce plastic waste. There are already similar legislations that passed in other parts of the country.

2. New NFL Policy: Players Must Stand for Anthem or Stay Off Field

A new NFL policy will require all players to either stand during the national anthem or stay off the field. 

Players who do not wish to stand may stay in the locker room until after the anthem is performed. 

The decision comes after players knelt during the anthem as a form of social protest during the past few seasons. 

The new rule proves to be a controversial one.

3. Dogs Help New Yorkers Learn Yiddish

A local group is keeping an ancient language alive while helping to create lifelong bonds with dogs. 

The city-based Workman's Circle has a popular Yiddish for dogs class that allows dog owners to reach their pets commands in the language. 

Classes are typically held in Central Park.
