16 Displaced After Large Fire Engulfs Several Homes in the Bronx: FDNY

A large fire that sent flames and smoke shooting into the sky displaced 16 residents early Tuesday in the Bronx.

The fire started around 4 a.m. at Bryant Avenue and 172nd Street, according to the FDNY.

The blaze, which started in a garage, quickly spread up to the building’s upper floors and caused the ceiling to collapse, authorities said.

Neighbors said the smoke spread into their buildings, forcing them out of their homes.

“I thought there was a fire in [my] building,” neighbor Orlando Gonzalez said.

Fire officials said no injuries had been reported.

The Red Cross is assisting residents who were displaced by the fire.

The cause of the fire wasn’t known.
