Lane Closures Set for George Washington Bridge, Bayonne Bridge, Holland Tunnel

Lane closures will be implemented over the next week at the George Washington and Bayonne bridges, as well as at the Holland Tunnel for ongoing construction or repair projects, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said Friday.

The closings are as follows:

George Washington Bridge

The GWB’s lower-level eastbound lanes will close Monday through Thursday (Aug. 29-Sept. 1) from 9 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning. During these closures, all eastbound traffic will be limited to the bridge’s upper level. These closures are necessary to accommodate an ongoing repair and repaving project.

Bayonne Bridge

The bridge is closing from 11:59 p.m. Friday until 7 p.m. Sunday to accommodate construction on the “Raise the Roadway” project. The bridge also closes during weekday hours: Mondays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and overnight on Mondays through Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. On certain weekdays the bridge will open at 4:30 a.m. to provide an alternate route for drivers affected by 4:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. traffic holds on the Goethals Bridge.

For Staten Island residents: Overnight closures of Richmond Terrace between Nicholas Avenue and Morningstar Road will take place Mondays through Saturdays, from 9 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning, for the next several weeks. During this time, residents will have local access to Newark Avenue and John Street. These closures are required to safely allow for overhead roadway installation.

Holland Tunnel

One westbound lane of the Holland Tunnel will close during overnight hours on Sunday night through Thursday night (Aug. 28-Sept. 1) from 11:59 p.m. each night through 5:30 a.m. the following morning. These closures are necessary for repairs to the tunnel’s air supply ports.
