Plane Makes Emergency Landing After Engine Fails on Takeoff from LaGuardia

The flight was operated by Delta and GoJet and was bound for Portland, Maine

A regional jet suffered an "engine shutdown" shortly after takeoff from LaGuardia Airport Wednesday morning, and had to make an emergency landing, the airline said.

The FAA said the pilot reported engine failure shortly after the flight took off close to 10 a.m. The plane dumped fuel and made an emergency landing at 10:39 a.m.

The plane, operated by Delta and GoJet and bound for Portland, Maine, "landed safely and taxied to the terminal," GoJet said.

Officials are examining the Bombardier CRJ-700 and Delta is making other plans for the passengers, the airline said.
