Man Struck, Killed by LIRR Train in Queens

A man was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train on a Queens crossing Thursday morning, officials say.

The unidentified man, who is in his 70s, was apparently struck while the train was going through crossing at Little Neck station at about 10:20 a.m.

The Port Washington branch of LIRR service was suspended for about an hour and a half as MTA police investigated.

The Little Neck station is the only LIRR station on the Port Washington line in Queens that is on ground level, according to state Sen. Tony Avella, who has called for increased safety measures there in the past.
