LIRR Train Hits SUV on Long Beach Branch; 1 Hurt

Long Island Rail Road officials say an elderly woman was injured when her SUV was hit by a train at a crossing in East Rockaway.

MTA Police say the SUV was crossing the Rocklyn Avenue crossing when the gate came down in back of the vehicle at about 12:25 p.m. Monday.

A witness says the woman drove onto the grade crossing while warning lights were flashing and bells were ringing.

The train, which had just left the Centre Avenue station, hit the rear of the SUV pushing it off the tracks.

The SUV driver was hospitalized with neck and back injuries.

There were no reports of injuries to 60 train passengers.
