A Long Island man who lost seven fingers and part of an eighth in an industrial accident says he is not angry at his employer.

The accident happened Wednesday at the aerospace company Hughes-Treitler in Garden City.

Fifty-three-year-old Manuel Rosario said the machine he was working on slammed shut before he could pull his hands away.

Rosario now has just two thumbs and part of his right pinkie.

But he told Newsday in a hospital interview, "You have to be strong and take care of what happened to you."

A spokesman for Hughes-Treitler's parent company, Ametek Inc., confirmed there was an accident but said he could not comment further.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
