A Suffolk County man who impersonated a police officer during a traffic stop was arrested Saturday by the real thing.

Christopher Maier, 28, of Sayville was pulled over Friday afternoon in a routine traffic stop in Islip Terrace.  Maier told the officers that he worked for the Village of Saltaire's police department, and authorities said he displayed a Lieutenant's badge.

After investigating it further, authorites found that Maier was not actually an officer.

Maier was arraigned on Saturday and has been charged with criminal impersination, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, criminal possession of a controlled substance among other charges.
