Teen Punches 41-Year-Old Woman in Brooklyn, Possible “Knockout” Attack Probed: Source

A 41-year-old woman was allegedly punched in the face by a teen suspect in Brooklyn Tuesday and police are investigating whether it was linked to a violent trend called the "knockout game" that is getting renewed attention.

The woman was approached by the suspect on New Lots Avenue near Ashford Street in East New York in the afternoon, police said.

No words were exchanged, and he did not take anything.

A law enforcement source said it was being investigated as a possible case of the knockout game.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly has said that as many as seven or eight assaults in recent weeks are being looked as as part of this trend. Some are being investigated as hate crimes; the suspects have been black and the victims white Jewish people.

The victim and suspect Tuesday are both black, according to a law enforcement official.

Most of the other potential knockout attacks have been in Crown Heights. Kelly said extra police were patrolling that neighborhood.
