Knife-Wielding Man Robs Subway Restaurant for Cash: Cops

A man robbed a Subway restaurant at knifepoint on Long Island, then made off with the cash, police say.

Armed with a knife, the suspect entered a Subway on Old Country Road in Westbury around 8:20 p.m. Saturday, Nassau County police said. He then approached the 23-year-old clerk and demanded money from the register.

The unknown thief fled the scene with an undisclosed sum, police said. He was last seen on foot near Bowling Green Drive.

There were two employees inside the store at the time of the robbery, but no customers, authorities said.

Detectives are investigating whether or not the theft is part of a larger pattern, though it hasn't been linked to similar robberies yet, according to authorities.

The suspect is believed to be between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, police said. He was last seen wearing a dark knit hat with a brim, a dark jacket, blue jeans, gloves and a dark scarf covering his face.

Detectives ask that anyone with information regarding the robbery call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-244-TIPS.
