Suspect Tried to Rape Woman in Kips Bay Building Stairwell: NYPD

Police are searching for a suspect in a rape attempt in the Kips Bay section of Manhattan on Thanksgiving Day.

The suspect is known to the NYPD, who says he was arrested Nov. 9 for a robbery. He allegedly forced a 48-year-old woman into the 17th-floor stairwell inside a building in the Straus Houses public housing complex on East 28th Street, forced her to perform a sex act and then tried to rape her, police said.

The victim fought back, and the suspect grabbed her handbag and ran down the stairs, according to police.

She followed her attacker and with the help of a bystander, took her handbag bag from the suspect, police said. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Dominique Frazier, ran into an elevator in the lobby.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where she was treated and released.
