Deliberations Begin in Case of 5 Newark Boys Burned Alive

Lee Evans faces 10 murder-related counts in the deaths of five teenagers who disappeared in 1978.

A case that took more than three decades to reach a New Jersey courtroom is now in the hands of a jury.

Lee Evans faces 10 murder-related counts in the deaths of five teenagers who disappeared in 1978.

A witness for the prosecution testified that he and Evans lured the boys to a vacant home, trapped them in a closet and set it ablaze in retaliation for the teens stealing marijuana from Evans.

Their bodies were never found.

Evans, representing himself, said during closing statements Friday that he is innocent and there is no evidence connecting him to the crime.

Prosecutors say Evans was long the main suspect and is responsible for the teens' deaths.
