Police have arrested 17 people and seized $39,000 in cash and 20 gambling machines following a six-month investigation into illegal gambling on Long Island.

Nassau County police say the gambling operation was run out of delis, bars and restaurants in Freeport and Roosevelt.

All the defendants have been charged with promoting gambling.

Nassau police are holding a news conference Friday to discuss details of their "Joker Poker" investigation.
