Man Dead, 10-Year-Old Girl Shot in Stomach in New Jersey: Police

Two men in their 20s were arrested Monday following a shooting in Jersey City the night before that killed a teenage man and injured a young girl.

Two groups of men were shooting at each other in the area of Ocean and Van Nostrand avenues shortly after 10 p.m., police said.

Exclusive video obtained by News 4 New York shows a panicked scene as a crowd of people scramble to get away as two gunmen open fire from the street. 

During the shootout, Jimmy Gregory, 19, was shot in his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene. It wasn’t immediately clear if he was targeted.

A 10-year-old girl from East Orange was sitting in her mother’s car when a bullet hit her in the stomach. She was taken to Jersey City Medical Center and was in stable condition on Monday afternoon.

Plainclothes officers witnessed the shootout, and cops gave chase on foot, authorities said. Police said two handguns were recovered during the chase.

Corey Pickett, 21, and Jonathan Ferrera, 21, were arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a firearm, hindering apprehension and resisting arrest.

Pickett and Ferrera were schedule to appear in court Tuesday. It wasn’t immediately clear if they had an attorney.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and Jersey City Police Department are investigating the shooting.
