Police have arrested and charged a teenager in the shooting of a 5-year-old boy in Jersey City.
The 16-year-old was charged Friday with aggravated assault and weapons crimes.
Authorities have said the child was shot in the abdomen near the Salem Lafayette housing complex on Wednesday afternoon.
He underwent surgery at Jersey City Medical Center and was listed in excellent condition after the procedure. He was expected to be released from the hospital Friday.
It wasn't clear what sparked the shooting, but neighbors say they saw people running through the streets and heard shots being fired.
