Add the Democratic mayor of Jersey City to the list of public figures in the Garden State calling for Gov. Christie to resign.
Mayor Steven Fulop launched a website, stepdownchris.com, on Tuesday to voice his concern with Christie campaigning for Donald Trump rather than focusing on local issues.
“Gov. Chris Christie must step down, he has made his priorities clear that time with Donald Trump on the campaign trail is more important than the people of New Jersey. Stand with me, by signing our petition to ask Gov. Christie to resign,“ a statement on the website reads.
Christie, a Republican, skipped the funeral of New Jersey State Police officer Sean Cullen in order to campaign for Trump in the South.
At an event in Linden on Tuesday, Christie said he and Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno had already decided that Guadagno would attend the funeral before Trump asked Christie to join him on the campaign trail.
"Even if I had stayed in the state I would have not gone to the funeral," he said, noting he had scheduled an appearance at a groundbreaking in Essex County the day of Cullen's funeral.
Christie also pointed out that Fulop was a likely candidate for the Democratic nomination in the 2017 gubernatorial race.

Fulop isn't the only one calling for Christie to step down. A political action committee supporting potential gubernatorial candidate Phil Murphy has also called on Christie to resign with the website DoYourJobOrQuit.com.
The editorial boards of more than a half-dozen newspapers in New Jersey have also called for the governor to step down. The Union Leader in Manchester, New Hampshire, also retracted its endorsement of Christie when the governor tapped Trump as his preferred Presidential candidate after ending his bid for the White House.
Tuesday, Christie said he "didn't care about that stuff" and that the calls for his resignation were from people who didn't like that he had endorsed Trump.
"I've answered this before," Christie said. "I'm not resigning. I'm serving my next 21 months as governor."
