Police were investigating at the scene of a crash in Jersey City that witnesses claim was caused by a driver intent on hurting the victim, a young mother who works as a security guard, according to relatives.
Officers were stationed at the corner of Martin Luther King Drive and Union Street into the evening, with the intersection taped off. Police were not offering information on the crash.
Witnesses say the driver purposely mowed down the woman, leaving her motionless on the sidewalk with life-threatening injuries. The two were arguing moments before the crash, witnesses said, but it's not clear what they were fighting about or whether they knew each other.
The driver "just mowed her down, ran her over deliberately," said James Bates, a man who identified himself as an uncle of the victim.
Video taken by a neighbor above the scene shows the woman laying on the ground, not moving, and a traffic light pole knocked down a few feet from her. A red vehicle is on the sidewalk, wedged against the building.
Bystanders also pummel a man nearby before police arrive, the video shows. A woman wails over the woman's body as emergency responders attend to her.
Two men were seen being handcuffed at the scene.

A man at the crash scene who also identified himself as an uncle of the victim told NBC 4 New York the woman, Kymeea Walker, was in surgery with two broken legs.
"I don't know what's her condition right now, she's in surgery right now," said uncle Michael Bey earli. "I can't really talk, it's killing me right now."
The Jersey City Police Department said she was taken to Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health with life-threatening injuries. The female driver was taken to the same hospital.
The uncle said Walker is a young mother and works as a security guard.
A co-worker who asked not to be identified said Walker works at Hudson County Welfare, "and every morning she would greet us 'good morning' as we go through the scan, always had a smile on her face."
"I'm praying for a good prognosis from all of this, and I'm praying everything goes back to normal, that she regains use of everything that she has, and that she comes out of this," said cousin Joane Umeh.
Messages left with Jersey City police have not been returned.
