A Delta flight from Istanbul to JFK made an emergency landing in Dublin Monday morning because of a cell phone, officials said.
Delta flight 73 from Istanbul to John F. Kennedy Airport was due to land in New York at 5:34 p.m. local time. It resumed flight shortly after the delay.
The pilot requested to make the emergency landing of the 767 jet after what turned out to be a passenger phone plugged into a socket in the plane's bathroom caused a disturbance in the cabin, according to the Irish Times newspaper.
The plane was reportedly parked in an isolated area of the airport while investigators boarded the aircraft. The Irish Times reports investigators discovered the alleged "suspicious device" was only a cell phone that had been plugged into the socket in the bathroom and left wrapped in its cable.
Police spoke with a passenger who stepped forward after an announcement was made. No arrests were made.
