An off-duty NYPD officer died, and an off-duty firefighter and a woman were seriously injured, in a crash on the FDR Drive early Saturday, police sources said.
Officer Garman Chen, 25, was speeding north on the FDR, near 25th Street, around 2:30 a.m. when the car mounted the center median, the NYPD and law enforcement sources said.
Chen's male and female passengers, both 25 years old, were ejected from the car and landed in the FDR's southbound lanes, according to police.
Chen was discovered inside the car with severe head trauma, police said.
All three were taken to Bellevue Hospital, where Chen was pronounced dead, the NYPD said.
The 76th Precinct, where Chen worked for three years, already raised bunting in his honor.

Chen's passengers were listed in serious but stable condition, according to police. The male passenger suffered leg and torso trauma, and the female passenger's right foot was severed, police said.
The FDR Drive was temporarily closed in both directions as a result of the crash. All of its lanes had reopened as of 8 a.m., officials said.
