Some areas of Jones Beach State Park on Long Island have reopened following Sandy.
George Gorman, a deputy regional director for the state parks department, says large sections of the boardwalk were damaged in the storm. He said access is limited to just two parking fields.
He said it is too soon to place an estimate on the total damage costs.
He also said the Jones Beach Theater had 4 feet of water from ocean flooding in the orchestra and promenade at the height of the storm last month.
Several parkways leading to Jones Beach also reopened Thursday.
But Gorman said the 18-mile stretch of the eastbound Ocean Parkway leading to neighboring Robert Moses State Park will require major repairs before it can be reopened.
