Human Skull Found on Jersey Shore

The Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the skull was human, prompting an expanded search of the area

A human skull was found in a wooded area of the Jersey Shore, prosecutors said on Wednesday.

Two men discovered the skull Tuesday around 3 p.m. while driving a car on Arizona Drive in Brick Township, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

A passenger called police after noticing the skull on the side of the road in the Lake Riviera section of Brick, the Asbury Park Press reported.

The Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the skull was human, prompting an expanded search of the area.

Old Toms River Road and Arizona Drive were closed between Beaverson Boulevard and Emerald Drive Wednesday morning as authorities investigated, according to the Asbury Park Press.

The finding does not pose a threat to people in the area and the investigation is ongoing, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Anyone with information on the case should call the Brick Township Police Department at 732-262-1143 or the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office at 732-929-2027.

Prosecutors earlier said the skull had been found on Friday before sending out a correction.
