Huma Taking a Break From Weiner, Work: Report

The wife of disgraced former congressman Anthony Weiner plans to take some time off from her job at the State Department as well as her husband, according to a published report.

Huma Abedin, who is pregnant with the couple’s first child, will head to an undisclosed location for some rest and relaxation while her sexting spouse heads to an “intensive” rehabilitation program, reports The New York Post.

“She is definitely taking time off away from her husband and chilling,” a source told the Post. “And he’s going some place for at least a couple of weeks.”

Weiner announced his resignation from Congress June 16, 20 days after he misfired a photo of his enlarged groin onto Twitter, unraveling a scandal that eventually revealed a series of sexual relationships with women he met online and lies he told to cover them up.

He struggled to dissolve the scandal, but the political pressure amid daily revelations about his behavior became too much to bear.

Ultimately, he announced he would take a leave of Congress and went into hiding. Weiner said he would not make any decision on his congressional career until his wife, Huma, returned from her trip to Africa with Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. The day after she returned, Weiner stepped down.

Abedin has been seen scarcely since then, apart from a trip to Chelsea for an ice cream cone. The couple was seen holding hands as they walked down the street. Abedin has said she plans to stick with her husband, but the sudden separation sparks renewed speculation about the couple’s future.

The State Department did not immediately confirm to the Post that Abedin was taking time off from work.
