A person ended up in the Hudson River while being chased by a group of people and had to be rescued by emergency responders Friday evening, witnesses said.
Firefighters conducted the water rescue near Pier 45 by West and Charles streets in Greenwich Village, according to the FDNY.
A witness told NBC 4 New York the victim appeared to be in distress while running away from a group of people, and hit a guard rail and fell over it into the water. The victim did not appear to know how to swim, according to the witness.
The victim was taken to the hospital; his or her condition was not immediately clear.
The emergency response resulted in delays on the West Side Highway.
