Two teenagers have been accused of causing $35,000 in damages by setting ablaze a high school football field.

An investigation by the Suffolk County police arson squad led to the arrest of the two teens -- Matthew Gauck and Adam Heinz -- on Friday.

One of the teens is a current student, the other a graduate of Newfield High School in Centereach.

The duo set fire to the end zone of the artificial turf field at about 2:50 a.m. on May 3, police say.

Gauck and Heinz were charged with second-degree mischief -- a class "D" felony. They were held overnight at a precinct jailhouse pending their arraignment Saturday in Central Islip.
