Man Arrested After Fleeing Long Island Motel Room Where Woman Was Killed

The man shot at police and ran into the woods before he was caught

Authorities say a man was arrested after he fatally shot a woman in a Long Island motel room and exchanged gunfire with police.

Officers responded to a motel room at the MacArthur Inn in Bohemia to investigate a report of a shooting just before 5 a.m. Saturday. When they knocked on the door, police say 24-year-old Stoker Olukotun Williams opened it and began firing at the two officers, who were only a foot away. The officers returned fire, wounding the suspect in the arm. No officers were injured.

Inside the room, police found the body of 24-year-old Shalece Cunningham, of Bay Shore. She had been shot in the head. Two friends of the victim were also in the room, but were unharmed.

The Bay Shore man is to be arraigned on murder and attempted murder charges on Sunday. It wasn't clear if he had a lawyer.
