Homeless Drunk Man Killed by Hit-Run Driver: Police

Authorities are investigating after a medical examiner determined a homeless drunk man found on a Staten Island street in August who later died had been hit by a car.

Police say Robert Roesch, 54, was apparently hit by a vehicle Aug. 17 near Ebbits Street and Hylan Boulevard. He was "highly intoxicated" and complaining of a broken leg, saying he had been hit by a car that then fled the scene.

Roesch was taken to a hospital, where he died about two weeks later.

The medical examiner confirmed his injuries were consistent with being hit by a car, and that that's what killed him. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
