Widow of Murder-Suicide Officer to Get Death Benefit

The widow of a retired White Plains police officer who killed his two daughters before turning the gun on himself will not be left penniless.

Her lawyer, Warren Roth, says Anamarie DiPietro-Hochman will receive a death benefit equal to about three and a half years of her late husband's salary -- a one-time payment worth up to $500,000.

Glen Hochman, had filed new retirement papers that removed her as his beneficiary days before the Feb. 21 shootings.

But Roth says because the state hadn't processed the form or paid out anything from his pension, it could recognize the original form. He says the state has indicated that's what it will do.

Roth says White Plains officials also indicated the city would cover health insurance for the widow and her surviving 22-year-old daughter for 90 days.
