A Suffolk County police officer saved a woman's life on Long Island when she leaped from the roof of her burning home into his arms.

A heroic Suffolk County police officer caught a woman who jumped from the roof of her burning home in Dix Hills early this morning.

Officer William O’Rourke responded to a 911 call about a house fire on Seaman Neck Road at about 2:45 a.m. and the found the homeowner, Anita Bareja, trapped on the roof.

O'Rourke managed to coax the terrified 37-year-old woman into jumping off the roof and promised he would catch her. He made good on his pledge.

Both Bareja and O'Rourke were taken to Huntington Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Members of the Dix Hills Fire Department and several neighboring departments extinguished the fire.

Suffolk County Police Arson Section detectives are investigating to determine the cause of the fire.
