Man Wounded by Cops at Deadly LI Shooting

A man on Long Island was shot and wounded by police officers during a domestic dispute in which a woman was found dead of a gunshot wound.

Nassau County Police say officers were called to a home on Roosevelt Street in Hempstead at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

When they arrived, police say the officers encountered a male who started firing at them with a handgun. Police say the officers returned fire, striking the man.

The man was taken into custody. His wounds were not considered life-threatening.

The dead woman was found inside the home along with another woman, who was hospitalized with a gunshot wound that was not considered life threatening.

No other details were immediately available.
