8 Hurt in Manhattan Apartment Blaze

The fire broke out on the third-floor of a building in the Hamilton Heights section of the borough.

Two people were seriously hurt and others injured in a blaze that erupted at a Manhattan apartment building early Wednesday.

Firefighters got a call about the second-alarm fire on the third floor of the West 147th Street building just before 4 a.m.

Authorities cited reports of frightened residents leaping from their third-story windows.

"It looked something on TV, people reenacting jumping out of a Towering Inferno jumping out of a window," said Veronica Clarke, who lives next to the building.

Five civilians were injured, including two seriously, in the fire, which happened in the Hamilton Heights section of the borough.

Three firefighters suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
