Prosecutors say a man charged in the murder of a Riverhead woman also raped the victim before strangling her.
Guillermo Alvarado Ajcuc pleaded not guilty to a felony murder charge in the death of 29-year-old Mirian Yohanna Garcia of Flanders.
He was held without bail.
Prosecutors say Ajcuc killed the woman after following her out of a Riverhead nightclub on May 6.

He allegedly grabbed at the woman's clothing and then raped her. The woman was then strangled with a belt.
Prosecutors say the suspect confessed after his arrest.
The Guatemalan native also is in the United States illegally, according to prosecutors.
