Explosion Rocks Brooklyn for TV Production

The staged stunt in Greenpoint is part of the production for the HBO series "Boardwalk Empire"

If you heard a loud explosion Thursday night, no need to be alarmed. It was just some Hollywood magic.

A controlled explosion shook Brooklyn Thursday night, part of a staged stunt for the television series "Boardwalk Empire."

FDNY and NYPD were on hand to supervise the explosion in Greenpoint, which happened just before 11 p.m. on a private property at Commercial Street and Franklin Street.

The city has been seeing a boom in local television and production. Last year, the industry contributed $7.1 billion to the city's economy last year, according to the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment.
