Firefighters faced more than flames during a series of fires in Great Kills, Staten Island on Wednesday, NBCNewYork has learned.

A law enforcement source said the FDNY and NYPD sniffed out a marijuana lab while responding to a fire at the Brower Court apartments.

Louis Ventafredda, 28, is accused of growing pot plans in his top-floor apartment, according to officials.

He wasn't home when authorities got a whiff of his alleged illegal activity Wednesday afternoon, but he was arrested later that night.

Ventafredda was charged with a felony count of marijuana possession and a misdemeanor count of drug possession, officials said.
